Translate the following excerpts from Diary of an Unknown Whaler.

It is a sad fact that the original text of the diary was destroyed in a fire. But as luck would have it, the unknown whalers grand-daughter, on his wife's side, had the good fortune to possess a photographic memory and was therefore able to obtain reprints from Boots photographic department, at an undisclosed price.
